Greetings to our Alaskan dictionary friends

Thanks to your help, we are very close to our goal of providing a dictionary to every third grader in Alaska. However, we would like your assistance before we go on.

We know where we stand in terms of raw numbers of students, but we are not sure where we stand in terms of schools covered. In some cases, we can guess which school(s) you have sponsored recently, but some are not so obvious. (Our data tracking is getting better, but it wasn`t as good in the past.)

Anchorage police donate dictionaries

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- The Anchorage Police Union gave a good word to the students of Nunaka Valley Elementary School today. In fact, the union gave them thousands.

Anchorage Police Department Detective Robert Lutes gave every third-grader their own dictionary, courtesy of APD Employees Association.

Lutes read about the national non-profit group Dictionary Project and convinced the police union to purchase the books for the kids.

Service club provides dictionaries to Ketchikan third-graders

KETCHIKAN, Alaska (AP) - Third graders in Ketchikan are getting more wordy.



A local service organization, First City Rotary, is distributing dictionaries to every third-grader in the city.

Rotary members last week started passing out American Education Publishing Dictionaries to all public and private schools, as well as home-schooled students, said Rotary President Mary Kowalczyk. The distribution continued this week.

`We ordered 192 dictionaries and we should have a few left over,` she said.
