Our Loveland Golden K Kiwanis Club has provided third grade student dictionaries to Franklin Elementary School for the second time this year. It is our belief that this dictionary is not just a place to look up unknown words, it opens the student to a world of information about the American Flag, the Declaration of Independence, Biographies of the U. S. Presidents, and facts about our fifty United States and other countries as well; plus many other useful and interesting areas.

Little cars bring good tidings for Grand Island teachers

By: Harold Reutter The Grand Island Independent

Donor: Grand Island Education Foundation

Students and teachers in eight Grand Island schools got a surprise Tuesday when a remote-control race car buzzed into their classrooms bearing a laminated check on its roof.

Students were clearly puzzled by the car that scooted through the open door before making its way to the teacher.

But teachers themselves had a quick answer to the mystery when they saw Traci Skalberg, executive director of the Grand Island Education Foundation, follow the car into the room.

That`s when they knew they had written a successful classroom mini-grant. That didn`t stop teachers from wearing wide smiles as they plucked the laminated c...

I wish I knew how to 'get the message out'

Donor: Fremont Noon Kiwanis Club

Dear Mary,

I wish I knew how to `get the message out` about this wonderful and worthwhile program. Everyone that I have mentioned it to is amazed, and wasn`t aware of it previously. Too bad someone like Oprah, or Regis and Kelly, can`t pick up on something like this, instead of promoting the latest movie or TV program.

Keep up the good work!

Third-graders at Lincoln Elementary got a present Tuesday morning from the Sunrise Rotary Club, as well as a quick lesson on how to use their new gift.

The present was a brand new Scholastic Dictionary for each student.
There was an excited buzz in the room as club members Bill McLellan, Chris Wormuth and Pam Price handed a colorful dictionary to each student.
After the books were handed out, Price heard a softly-asked question and asked the student to repeat it so the whole class could hear it.
The question was simple: `Do we have to pay for this?`

By: Alex Blanche

Donor: Rotary Club of Kimball and Western Nebraska Observer

I wanted to let you know how pleased the 60 plus kids were about receiving dictionaries from the local Kimball, Nebraska Rotary group. We distributed to 3rd grade classes and all were very excited. The real excitement, however, was the Rotarians who distributed them . They mentioned that it was the best local project they ever did, mainly because the kids were so excited about receiving them. I would encourage every Rotary Club to get involved--it restores your faith in helping others.

I would also like to thank you for the Spanish-English Dictionaries that our local paper has made available to people in the area free of cha...
