This year, we have a new elementary school in Owasso. We also added the Collinsville, OK public school system since they do not have a Rotary Club. We also added the Cornerstone Christian Academy, and provided 96 dictionaries for the Rejoice Christian School mid-high and high school students.
This continues to be my favorite Rotary project and the Owasso Rotary Club hopes to continue to fill in the smaller school districts in our area which are not covered by Rotary Clubs. In this season of gratitude, I am thankful for your coordination of this important literacy project across the U.S.A. God Bless America!

For the past several years the Rotary Club of Owasso has provided dictionaries to every third grader in Owasso schools, which includes the seven elementary schools, Rejoice, and Wright Academy.

A dictionary is more than just a book with words and definitions. For some Duncan third-grade students, dictionaries could prove to be a lifeline to more knowledge.
The Duncan Rotary Club provided dictionaries for all third-graders at Woodrow Wilson, Emerson and Mark Twain. Along with these books, students received letters explaining the project. These letters were addressed to the parents and guardians of the students.
Susan Camp, Rotary member, said, `I think it was great. I think it`s important that they have their very own books because books are keys to opening doors of opportunity for them.`

Dolly Dixon recently joined Southside (Tulsa) Rotary Club. She wanted to ensure that the dream of her late husband, Stanley, endured.
The dream wasn`t originally Stanley`s. It was the dream of Annie Plummer.
Because of that dream, thousands of children in the Tulsa area and more than a million throughout America, have new dictionaries to help them succeed in school.
Annie Plummer was an African-American woman born in the Depression. The fifth of 12 children, she dropped out of school early to raise a daughter as a single mom. She was a maid and a school crossing guard to make ends meet.

Great project. When we were handing them out, those that had received theirs were looking through them and talking about them to their classmates. Each third-grader in McCurtain County will be receiving a student dictionary this week.
Each of the 35 clubs of Rotary District 5830 try to adopt a literacy program each year, said Bob Heinemann, a longtime Rotarian.
It`s the second time the Idabel Rotarians, including some who reside in Broken Bow, have provided dictionaries to elementary students. But this time the project is reaching more people. The 550 dictionaries, in a handy softcover student edition, are going to each of the third-graders in the 15 school districts in the county this week. Previously, the dictionaries were given out only in the Idabel area.

Typical of the work in rural schools is ADG Ellyn Schieffarth`s Fort Smith Rotary Club.
